The speed of the sound, distance traveled and the time taken relationship is given as follows.

  • Speed of sound= Distance travelled / Time taken

  • From this equation the Distance traveled is derived as

  • Distance travelled=Speed of sound×Timetaken

But, the speed or velocity of the sound is given as,

speed of sound=Frequency×Wavelength

Back to question

In the question, the frequency is 320 Hz and the wavelength is 0.25 m.

So, Speed of sound = 320Hz×0.25m=80m/s

Now,

Distance traveled=Speed of sound×Timetaken

That is,

Distance traveled

=80m/s×10seconds

=800m.

Hence, the distance traveled by the sound wave in 10 seconds is 800 meters
