frequency is 1khz

=1×1000hz

=1000hz

(1khz=1000hz)

wavelength is 25cm

=25÷100m

=0.25m

(1cm=1/100m)

speed of sound (v) =frequency×wavelength

v=1000×0.25

=250m/s

speed =distance/time

time=distance/speed

time=2.2km×1000/250

(1km=1000m )

time= 2200/250

time=8.8sec

hence the time required to travel 2.2km is 8.8sec

The time taken by the sound wave is 8.8 seconds.

Explanation:

It is given that,

Frequency of the sound wave, f = 1 kHz = 1000 Hz

Wavelength, \lambda=25\ cm=0.25\ m

Distance covered, d = 2.2 km = 2200 m

The speed of sound wave in terms of frequency and the wavelength is given by :

v=f\lambda

v=1000\ Hz\times 0.25\ m

v = 250 m/s

The speed of sound is also defined as the total distance covered divided by total time taken.

v=\dfrac{d}{t}

t=\dfrac{d}{v}

t=\dfrac{2200\ m}{250\ m/s}

t = 8.8 seconds

So, the time taken by the sound wave is 8.8 seconds. Hence, this is the required solution.
