QUESTION:-

A space shuttle is launched into space. During the first 8 minutes the average acceleration of the shuttle is 17.5 m/s².How far does it travel in the first 8 minutes?

EXPLANATION:-

  • u=0 m/s [SINCE THE SPACE SHIP IS LAUNCHED FROM REST]
  • a=17.5 m/s²
  • Time =8 minutes=8×60=>480 s
  • Distance covered=?

To find the distance covered we will use 2nd equation of motion:-

s=ut+(0.5)at²

Now let's put the given data of the question to fin distance

s=0×480+(0.5)×17.5×(480)²

s=8.75×230400

s=2016000

So the distance covered is 2016000 metres or 2016 km in 8 minutes

\huge\purple{\fbox{GIVEN\ THAT:-}}

  • Since the space ship is launched from rest ,therefore,u=0 m/s
  • \ a=17.5m/s^{2}
  • Time=8 minutes =8×60=480 seconds

\huge\fbox\red{TO FIND:-}

Distance covered

Now ,by 2nd Equation of motion, we have

\bold\ s=ut+(0.5) at^{2}

\bold\ s=0×480+(0.5)×17.5×(480)^{2}

\bold\ s=8.75×230400

\bold\ s=2016000

Hope it helps you !!!
