A good morning to you ladies and gentlemen. It is true when they say ” Hard work pays.” Today we are all gathered here to join in the celebration of those who have worked hard and have achieved excellent results. It brings me great pleasure to be part of this wonderful event in my last year of school.
Believe it or not, for one to be here it takes a few sleepless nights and hard physical torture with sweat. I do not mean to discourage anyone but that is the truth. No pain no gain. I have once been in those shoes, feeling as if my parents hated me every time they would wake me up to study, the worst days ever but little did I know that it was part of the journey to be where I am now. The journey is not as easy as it seems because it is full of pain and less of the leisure activities. As a young student I used to think that study time in the basement was punishment and I used to hate it when prefects chased after us to go study but believe me I was grateful to the teachers and prefects when everything fell into place. This is to all students, do not hate us when we push you to work because one day you will remember us and thank us.
Not only are we here to celebrate academic achievements, at this school our motto is balancing both academics, sports and other cultural activities. We have some students who are now recognized nationally for different sports and clubs offered at this school. Sports might seem pointless but this is where one relaxes from school work and learns to be disciplined and wok with others as a team. A sportive person becomes healthy, more alert and sharp at her schoolwork, so it is no torture when we say sport is compulsory.
This is encouragement to the other students who did not get a chance to win the prizes, never give up on your goals, keep working hard because there is a prize for you at the end of your journey. To the prize winners, keep up the good work, stay focused and congratulations. Thank you.
