a speech on sports are equally important as studies

Explanation:
In my opinion, studies are a little more important. You will need to work hard on both to be a college athlete or a professional, if that is your end goal. The balance of academics and sports is a big part of what makes it so challenging to be successful. For most professional leagues, you need to complete some college beforehand and grades do matter for getting in and staying on the team. I used to be an academic tutor for college athletes and if you cannot make the grades to be on the team, you can face probation, fines, and if you are a burden to the team you simply won’t play.
I would argue that education is important even if you make it to the professional level. More and more college athletes are finishing their degree before proceeding to the pro leagues because the fact of the matter is you can only play sports at a high level for so long. Athletes used to think their professional salary would change their life forever, but recently it has come to light that the MAJORITY of them mismanage their money and are left at 35–40 years old with little money and no real-world work experience. This leaves them with 30–40 years until the average retirement age to support themselves on a salary they no longer make. If you think of the athletes that you still hear about after retirement that are still getting sponsorships or are still actively contributing to the sports industry - they are typically Hall of Famers. Not all Hall of Famers and definitely not the majority of professional athletes still make money from their sport after they retire. So I think it’s a great thing that athletes’ mindsets have shifted to focus on their academics and prepare themselves for an inevitable future without sports. A degree makes it much easier for them to reintegrate into the real world.
