The income of B is Rs. 2000.

A spends 90% of his salary and B spends 85% of his salary. But savings of both are equal.

We have to find the income of B, if sum of their incomes is 5000 Rs.

Let the income of A is x and income of B is y.

A spends 90% of his income.

∴ savings of A is 10% of his income. i.e., 10 % of x

And B spends 85% of his income.

∴ savings of B is 15% of his income. i.e., 15% of y

A/C to question,

savings of A = savings of B

⇒ 10% of A = 15% of B

⇒ 10A = 15B

⇒ A/B = 3/2

Let the proportionality constant is x.

∴ the income of A = 3x

And the income of B = 2x

∵ the sum of their incomes is 5000 [ Given ]

∴ 3x + 2x = 5000

⇒ x = 1000

∴ Income of B = 2x = 2 × 1000 = Rs. 2000

Therefore the income of B is Rs. 2000.
