A sphere of radius 14 cm is cut into 8 identical pieces by making three mutually perpendicular cuts. How do you calculate the volume for each part, CSA and TSA ?

When you cut the sphere by three perpendicular planes passing through the centre of the sphere, you get 8 pieces.

Consider one piece,

The curved surface is (1/8)th of the total surface of the sphere = 4πr^2/8 = πr^2/2

The three plane surfaces are quadrants of a circle = 3*πr^2/4

In terms of the radius the total surface area of each piece = πr^2/2 + 3*πr^2/4

= πr^2[(1/2)+(3/4)]

=(5/4)πr^2.
