Required Answer :

The surface area of sphere = 0.0036 m²

Given :

  • Radius of a sphere = 1.7 cm

To find :

  • Surface area of sphere

Concept :

Here, in this question we are provided the radius of a sphere and we need to calculate the surface area of the sphere in metres. So, firstly we will convert the radius of the sphere from cm into m. Then by using the following formula we will calculate the surface area of sphere,

  • Surface area of sphere = 4πr²

where,

  • Take π = 22/7
  • r denotes the radius

Solution :

Converting the radius of the sphere in m :

As we know,

  • 1 m = 100 cm

In order to convert the value from cm into m, divide it by 100.

⇒ Radius = 1.7/100

⇒ Radius = 17/1000

Radius = 0.017 m

Now, applying the given values in the formula of surface area of sphere :

⇒ Surface area of sphere = 4 × 22/7 × (0.017)²

⇒ Surface area of sphere = 4 × 22/7 × 17/1000 × 17/1000

⇒ Surface area of sphere = 0.0036

Therefore, the surface area of sphere = 0.0036 m²

Knowledge Bytes :

  • Volume of sphere = 4/3 πr³
  • Volume of cylinder = πr²h
  • Volume of cone = 1/3 πr²h
  • Curved surface area of cone = πrl
  • Total surface area of cone = πrl + πr²h
  • Total surface area of cylinder = 2πrh + 2πr²
  • Area of circle = πr²
  • Diameter = 2 × Radius
  • Radius = Diameter/2
