A spherical ball of mass 20kg is stationary at the top of a hill of height 100m . it rolls down a smooth surface to the ground , then climbs up another hill of height 30m and finally tools down to a horizontal base at a height of 20m above the ground . The velocity attained by the ball is ? [AIEEE 2005]

Given:

  • Mass of Ball (m) = 20kg
  • Height (h) = 100m
  • Other Hill's Height (h) = 30m
  • Horizontal height = 20m

To Find:

  • The velocity attained by the ball is ?

Solution:

For the Potential energy, we have to count the Initial and final velocity;

we get;

Difference is: 100m - 20m = 80m

Conservation of Energy,

{\sf\purple{ \dfrac{1}{2} mv^2 = mgh}} \\ \\ \hookrightarrow{\sf{ 0.5v^2 = 10 \times 80 }} \\ \\ \hookrightarrow{\sf\blue{ v = 40 \: m \ s}} \\

Hence,

The Velocity of the spherical ball is 40 m/s.
