A spherical mirror produces an image of magnification -1 on a screen placed at a distance of 40 cm from the mirror:; (i) Write the type of mirror; (ii) What is the nature of the image formed?; (iii) How far is the object located from the mirror?; (iv) Draw the ray diagram to show the image formation in this case.(Delhi - 2014)

i. Concave mirror

ii. Real image

Explanation:

m  = -1

v = - 40 cm (because m is also -ve)

i. concave mirror because a real image is formed.

ii. Real image because m is -ve

iii. m = -v/u

-1 = -(-40) / u

u =  -40

Plus point: Since u and v come out to be equal, the object as well as the image is at C.

iv. Refer to the image.
