Section two of spinner = 4

Number of spins = 3

To Find:

Probability that the sum of three spins is 10

Solution:

The possible outcomes of two spinners is -  

2 = 2 2 2 , 2 2 4, 2 4 2, 2, 4 4

4 = 4 4 2   4 2 4  4 2 2  4 4 4

Total combinations = 8

Possible three spins outcome = 244, 442 and 424

Thus,

The probability  of a sum of a 10  = 3  / 8

Answer: Probability that the sum of three spins is 10 is 3/8.

A spinner has two sections of equal size that are numbered 2 and 4

Possible outcome = 2

The spinner will be spun three times.

hence total possible outcomes = 2 * 2 * 2 = 8

=> n(S) = 8

S = {222 , 224  , 242 , 244 , 422 , 424  , 442 , 444}

sum of the three spins is 10

4 + 4 + 2 =  10  

Hence there has to be 2 once    

2 once = ³C₁  = 3  Times    or 4 Twice  = ³C₂ = 3

n(E) = 3

E = {  244   , 424   , 442 }  

Hence probability = n(E)/n(S)

= 3/8

3/8 is the probability that the sum of the three spins is 10
