Given : A spiral spring of natural length 30cm and force constant of 20Nm¯¹ compared to 20.0cm.

To find : The energy stored in the spring.

solution : A spiral spring of natural length 30cm and it is compressed upto to 20cm.

so, length of compression, x = 30cm - 20cm = 10cm = 0.1 m

We know, potential energy, U = 1/2 Kx²

here k is spring force constant and x is length of compression/elongation

k = 20 Nm¯¹ and x = 0.1 m

so, U = 1/2 × 20 × (0.1)² = 10 × 0.01 = 0.1 Joule

Therefore energy stored in the spring is 0.1 Joule.
