Answer:

375 m/s

Explanation:

Given A splash is heard 3.12 seconds after a stone is dropped into a well 45 meters deep. The speed of sound in air is

Given to find the speed of sound in air

We know that time taken for stone to reach the bottom of well will be

h = ut + 1/2 gt^2

45 = 0 + 1/2 x 10 x t^2

t ^2 = 9

t = 3 sec

Now the splash is 3.12 seconds

So the time taken by the sound is

3.12 – 3 = 0.12 secs

So distance covered by sound is 45 m

We know that

Speed = distance / time

Speed = 45/0.12 = 375 m/s

So speed of sound in air will be 375 m/s
