Hii There!!

A sponge is a porous solid. It has minute holes in which air is trapped when we press it the air is expelled out and we are able to compress it.
Hence, it is a solid.

Hope it helps

Hii!!

Here's ur answer..

First we will discuss about the properties of a solid..

• a solid have definite shape, distinct boundaries and fixed volumes.

• solid have neligible compressibility.

• kinetic energy is very less in solid.

Now tell me, a sponge have all these properties?

No.. it can be compressed. Except this a sponge have all properties which I mentioned above. It have a definite shape, distinct boundaries and fixed volume unless it's compressed.

Ok now, why it can be compressed?

We know that a sponge have many minute holes ( very tiny holes ) in which air is trapped. And when we press it, the air trapped between the holes is expelled from the holes and it leaves the sponge compressible.
Hence it's compressible and other solids are not.

Hope u understood frnd :)
