A sponge is a solid but can be easily compressed.why?

A sponge has many minute holes which are occupied by air. When we press a sponge, air from the wholes is expelled out and we are able to compress it .In fact a sponge is compressible due to the air in the minute holes. Hence sponge can be compressed even though it is a solid ..

because in sponge the property the solids are un compressed is negligible because the sponge has many minutes gaps in it
