A spray can is used until it is empty except for the propellant gas, which has a pressure of 1344 torr at 23 °C. If the can is thrown into a fire (T = 475 °C), what will be the pressure in the hot can

Answer:

2396.3 torr

Explanation:

Given :

P₁ = 1344 torr

P₂ = ?

T₁ = 23 C = 296 K

T₂ = 475 C

= > T₂ = 475 + 273 = 748 K

From Gay Lussac's law we know :

P₁ / T₁ = P₂ / T₂

= > P₂ = ( P₁ × T₂ ) / T₁

Putting values here we get :

= > P₂ = ( 1344 × 748 ) / 296 torr

= >  P₂ = 2396.3 torr

Hence we get required answer!

P1 = 1344 torr

T1 = 23°C = 296 K

T2 = 475°C = 748 K

To find :

  • P2 = ?

Solution :

Formula : P1*T2 = P2*T1

so ,

1344*748 = P2*296

1,005,312 ÷ 296 = P2

P2 = 3396.3 torr
