A square and an isosceles triangle have the same perimeter. The base of the isosceles triangle is 12 cm

and each side of square is 5 cm shorter than each of the equal sides of the isosceles triangle. Find the

perimeter of the square.​

Answer:

Let us assume each side of triangle be x

∴ Each side of square will be (x - 5)

⇒ According to question , perimeter of isosceles triangle and square is equal.

→ Perimeter of isosceles triangle = 12+x+x ( we wrote x two times cause two sides are equal in isosceles triangle)

→ Perimeter  of square = 4 *sides = 4 * (x-5)

Lets substitue the values :

12 + 2x = 4(x - 5)

12 + 20 = 4x - 2x

x = 16

Perimeter of square is

4(16 - 5) = 4(11) = 44 cm.
