A square field of side 10m having same perimeter of a rectangular field. Find the breadth of rectangular field if it's length is 13cm. Which field incloses more area?

______________________________________

Given:-

Side of a square = 10cm

Length of the rectangle field = 13cm

To Find:-

  • Width of rectangle
  • Comparison of area of rectangle and square.

Concept:-

Perimeter of square = 4 × side or 4a.

Perimeter of rectangle = 2(length + Breadth)

Area of square = Side² or

Area of rectangle =length × Breadth or l × b

Calculation:-

Perimeter of square = 4 × 10

= 40 cm

ATQ

Perimeter of square = perimeter of rectangle

let the width of rectangle be x cm.

40cm = 2(14 + x)

40 cm = 28 + 2x

40 - 28 = 2x

12 = 2x

6 = x.

so , Width of the rectangle is 6 cm.

Comparison of area of rectangle and square:-

Area of rectangle = l × b

= 13 × 6

= 78 cm²

Area of square =

= 10²

= 100cm²

Thus, the area of square is greater than the area of rectangle.
