GIVEN:

Side of a square = 4cm

Length and breadth of rectangle are 5cm and 4cm

TO FIND:

Which of the the above has lesser area.

SOLUTION:

We know that,

Area of a square = side × side

= 4 × 4

= 16cm²

Area of Rectangle = length × breadth

= 5 × 4

= 20cm²

The area of square is 16cm² and rectangle is 20cm²

Therefore, the square has lesser area compare to the area of rectangle.

So ,area of square = (s)^2 = 4× 4= 16 square centimetres.

Length of rectangle= 5 cm

Breadth of rectangle=4 cm

Area of rectangle =L ×B= 5×4=20 square centimetres.

HENCE,square has lesser area by 4 square metres.
