Answer:

Total surface area of the body formed is 182 cm sq.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : A square hole of cross sectional area 4 cm sq. is drilled across a cube with its length parallel to a side of a cube. If an edge of the cube measures 5 cm.

To find : What is the total surface area (in cm sq.) of the body so formed?

Solution :

Edge of the cube is a=5 cm.

Area of the cube is A_c=6a^2

A_c=6(5)^2=6\times 25=150cm^2

Area of cross sectional is A=4 cm sq.

Total surface area of the cube have a hole of cross-sectional area is

TSA=A_c-2(A)

TSA=150-2(4)

TSA=150-8

TSA=142 cm^2

Area of the four walls of the hole made parallel to the side of the cube is

4\times 5\times 2=40cm^2

Total surface area of the body formed is 142+40=182 cm sq.
