A square is made out of a wire 60 cm long .It is opened out and reshaped into a rectangle of length 17 cm. What is the breadth of the rectangle? Compare the areas of square and that of rectangle.

and

perimeter of square = perimeter of rectangle =60cm

length of rectangle = 17cm

breadth of rectangle = 2(l+b)=60

= 2(17+b)=60

= 17+b = 60/ 2

= b = 30 - 17

= b = 13

breadth of rectangle = 13 cm

area of square = S×S

= 15 × 15

= 225 square cm

area of rectangle = l × b

= 13 × 17

= 321 square cm

area of rectangle is larger than area of square
