A square room is surrounded by a verndah of width 2m. The area of the verandah is 64 m sq. Find the area of the room

Let the side of the square room be x meter 
 then area of verandah is
                                         4x +4x+ 16 = 64
                                          8x = 64 - 16 = 48
                                            x = 6
therefore area of room is 6*6= 36 sqm
