let the side of sheet is 40 cm

area of sheet =(side)^2

                      =  40^2

                      =  1600 sqcm

A strip of width 5 cm is cut out all round from a sheet of paper

Let that form a inner square

side of inner square = 40-5-5-5-5

                                 =20cm

area of inner square is (side)^2

                                   =  20 ^2

                                   =   400 sq cm

therefore area of remaining sheet is 40sqcm.

Area of the strip cut out = Area of outer square - Area of inner square

= 1600cm2−400cm2=1200cm2

Answer:

area of whole square=40cm^2

=40×40

=1600cm^2

one side of inner square=40-(5+5)

=30

Area of inner square=30cm^2

=30×30

900cm^2

Area of strip cut off=1600-900

=700cm^2 ans
