Therefore the width of the the rectangle is = 8 cm

Therefore the area of the square is more than the area of the rectangle by 4 cm²

Step-by-step explanation:

A square is formed from a 10 cm long wire.

With the same wire a rectangle of length 12 cm is formed.

Then

The perimeter of the square is equal to the perimeter of the Rectangle

Let x be the breadth of the rectangle .

The perimeter of a square is = 4× side

Therefore the perimeter of a square is =(4×10) cm

                                                                =40 cm

The perimeter of a rectangle is= 2(length+breadth)

Therefore the perimeter of a rectangle is =2(12+x) cm

                                                                     =(24+2x)cm

According to the problem,

24+2x=40

⇒2x = 40-24

⇒2x = 16

\Rightarrow x =\frac{16}{2}

⇒x = 8

Therefore the width of the the rectangle is = 8 cm

The area of a square = side²

Therefore the area of the square is =10² cm²

                                                           = 100 cm²

The area of a rectangle is = length×breadth

The area of the rectangle is = (12×8) cm²

                                               =96 cm²

Therefore the area of the square is more than the area of the rectangle by (100-96)cm² =4 cm²
