Given : A stack of five cards has the numbers 1,3,5,7,9. They are placed face down and one card is pulled out , the number noted and placed back again

To find : Which one of the following is a possible total sum, after six such draws : 4, 19, 27, 28, 60.

Solution:

Cards

 1,3,5,7,9

all odd numbers  & draws are 6 even

hence sum must be even

so 19  &  27 can not be a sum

Smallest card is 1  Hence minimum sum

= 1 * 6

= 6

so 4 can not be sum

Largest card is 9 Hence maximum sum

= 9 * 6

= 54

so 60 can not be sum

So we left with only option 28

Few possible combinations as blow

5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 3  = 28

9 + 9 + 5 + 3 + 1 + 1   = 28

7 + 7 + 7   + 5 + 1 + 1   = 28

9 + 9 + 7  + 1 + 1 + 1 = 28

1  + 3  + 3 + 5  + 7 + 9 = 28

There can be many more possible combination

28  is a possible total sum, after six such draws
