A..   Air enters the respiratory system through the nose and mouth and passes down the throat (pharynx) and through the voice box, or larynx. The entrance to the larynx is covered by a small flap of tissue (epiglottis) that automatically closes during swallowing, thus preventing food or drink from entering the airways.

B..      The trachea is covered by incomplete C- shaped cartilaginous rings . The trachea is composed of about 20 rings of tough cartilage. The back part of each ring is made of muscle and connective tissue. This ring prevents trachea from collapsing when there is less air in it.

C.       The epiglottis is flap of cartilage located in the throat behind the tongue and in front of the larynx. ... When a person swallows the epiglottis folds backward to cover the entrance of the larynx so food and liquid do not enter the windpipe and lungs.
