(a) Chlorophyll's job in a plant is to absorb light—usually sunlight. The energy absorbed from light is transferred to two kinds of energy-storing molecules. Through photosynthesis, the plant uses the stored energy to convert carbon dioxide (absorbed from the air) and water into glucose, a type of sugar.

(b) The insectivorous plants grow in soil which do not contain sufficient nitrogen mineral. These plants (e.g. pitcher plant) are green and carry out photosynthesis to obtain a part of the food required by them.So, insectivorous or carnivorous plants feed on insects to obtain the nitrogen needed for their growth.
