Given : A statue is being carved by a sculptor. The original piece of marble weighs 140 kg. On the first week 35% is cut away. On the second week the sculptor chips off 26 kg and on the third week he chips off two-fifths of the remainder

To Find : Weight of the final statue (in kg) is

Solution:

Initial Weight = 140 kg

On the first week 35% is cut away.

Cut away = (35/100)140  =  49 kg

Remaining = 140 - 49  =  91 kg

On the second week the sculptor chips off 26 kg

Remaining 91 - 26  = 65 kg

on the third week he chips off two-fifths of the remainder

= (2/5) 65

= 26 kg

Remaining Weight   = 65 - 26

= 39 kg

Weight of the final statue (in kg) is 39
