a steamer goes down from one point to another is 7 hours . it covers same distance up stream is 8 hours . if the speed of stream be 2 km per hour . find the speed of stream in still water at the distance between the ports

this is way to use camera

now come to the question

let  the speed of streamer be x

speed of stream=2km/hr

the time taken by streamer to go upstream=8 hours

the time taken by steamer to go downstream= 7 hours

speed of streamer going upstream=8(x-2)

speed of streamer going downstream=7(x+2)

speed of streamer is 8(x-2)=7(x+2)

8x-16=7x+14

x=30

speed of streamer = 30km/hr, so,distance=8(30-2)=240-16 = 224 or

7(30+2)=210+14=224

speed of streamer in still water=30km/hr and distance=224/kms
