A steamer goes downstream and covers the distance between two parts in 4 hours while it covers the same distance upstream in 6 hours . If the speed of the stream is 2km/h ,find the speed of the streamer in still water . ​

Let the distance between the two ports be x km.

Then, speed downstream = x/4

And speed upstream = x/6

Speed of the stream,

= [speed downstream - speed upstream] / 2

= (x/4 - x/6)/2

Or, (6x -4x)/40 = 1

Or, 2x/40 = 2

x/40=1

Thus x=40

Distance between two ports = 40km
