the speed downstream =(X+2) km/hr

then the speed upstream =(x-2)km/hr

the distance covered in 7 hrs while going downstream 7(X+2)km

the distance covered in 8 hrs while going upstream 8(x-2)km

=> 7(X+2)= 8(x-2)

=> 7x+14= 8x-16

=> 14+16 = 8x-7x

=> 30 = X

=> X=30 km /hr

speed of steamer in still water = 30 km/hr

distance between ports= 7(30 +2)

=7×32

=224km
