Answer:

The streamer speed in still water is 19 km/hr.

The distance between ports is 180 km.

Given:

The stream speed = 1 km/hr

X km/hr is the steamer speed in still water.

Distance covered by Downstream in 9 hour = Distance covered by upstream in 10 hour

Consider below,

Downstream steamer speed= Still water steamer speed + Stream speed= x + 1,

Upstream steamer speed = Still water steamer speed - Stream speed= x – 1

Distance covered by Downstream in 9 hour = 9(x + 1)

Distance covered by upstream in 10 hour = 10(x -1)

Solution:

9 (x + 1) = 10 (x - 1)

9x + 9 = 10x - 10

10x – 9x = 10 + 9

x = 19

Speed of the still water = 19 km/hr

Distance between the ports = 9 (19 + 1 ) = 9( 20 ) = 180 km.

Hope it will help u.

Plz mark it as thanks....
