let speed in still water be x

since distance is same therefore.

speed × time will remain constant

9×(x+1)=10×(x-1)

9x+9=10x-10

x=19kmph

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:Given:The stream speed =1km/hrs

xkm/hr is the steamer speed in still water

Distance covered by the downstream in 9 hrs=distance covered by upstream in 10 hrs

Downstream steamer speed=still water steamer speed +stream speed =x+1

Upstream streamer speed =still water +stream speed =x-1

Distance covered downstream =9x+1

Distance covered upstream =10x-1

Equation is

9(x+1)=10(x-1)

9x+9=10x-10

10x-9x=10+9

X=19

Therefore 19km/hr

And distance between the ports =9x×19+9=9×20

180 km
