A steel ball initially at a pressure of 105 Pa is heated from 20˚C to 120˚C keeping its volume constant. Find the final pressure inside the ball. Given that coefficient of linear expansion of steel is 1.1 x 10-5 /˚C and Bulk modulus of steel is 1.6 x 1011 Nt/m2

Answer:

The ball tries to expand its volume. But it is kept in the same volume. So it is kept at a constant volume.

So the stress arises is defined as:

(VΔV)P=B

⇒P=BVΔV=B×γΔθ

Substiting the values in above relation:

P=B×3αΔθ

=1.6×1011×10−6×3×12×10−6×(120−20)

=57.6×197≈5.8×108pa
