A steel wire of length 1.5 m and diameter A.25 cm is ioaded with a force of 98 N. The increase in length of the wire is 1.5 x 10-a m. Calculate the tensiie stress and the fractional change in iength of the wire.

Cross sectional area of wire is -

A = πr^2

A = 3.142 × (0.25/2)^2

A = 0.049 m^2

Tensile stress of steel wire is calculated as -

Stress = F / A

Stress = 98 / 0.049

Stress = 2000 N/m^2

Fractional change in length of wire is given by -

Strain = l/L

Strain = Stress / Y

Strain = 2000 / 2×10^11

Strain = 10^-8

Therefore, fractional change in length of wire is 10^-8.
