A Steel wire of radius 10 mm is bent in a circular arc of radius 50 cm if the young modulus of Steel 2×10^11 N/m2 the maximum stress on wire will be 4000 MPa.

1) Using bending formula,

(M / I) = (E / R) = (σ / y)

2) Given data, y = 10 mm = 0.01 m, R = 0.5 m, E = 2 * 10 ^ 11 N/ m^2

3) We have, (E / R) = (σ / y)

4) So, σ max = (E * y) / R = 4 * 10 ^ 9 N/m^2 = 4000 MPa.
