. A stick of 15 cm length is broken in the ratio 1:2, and the two pieces are placed in parallel to each other at a distance half of the bigger piece. The pieces are placed against a wall, and the other ends are tied by a thread. Assuming that this thread is straight, what is the area enclosed in the figure so formed?

Step-by-step explanation:

Length of the stick = 15 cm

It was broken in the ratio 1:2 so each part = 5cm and 10cm

according to question distance between them after placing it parallely against a wall = 10/2= 5 cm

after being tied the figure formed will be a trapezoid and height between them will be same as distance between them.

so area = half of sum of parallel sides × height

= (15/2)×5 =37.5 cm²
