AS WE KNOW
V = U - GT (AS OBJECT IS FALLING)
THEN
V = 0- 10 × 0.5
THEREFORE
V AT JUST BEFORE IT STRIKES THE GROUND
= -5 m/s
NOW AS Vavg = TOTAL DISTANCE / TOTAL TIME
BUT WE DON'T KNOW H (DISTANCE COVERED)
THEN
FROM EQUATION
-H = UT - 1/2 GT
=> H = 1/2 GT
=> H = 5 × (1/2)^2 {0.5 SEC = 1/2 SEC}
H = 5/4
NOW
Vavg = (5/4)/(1/2)
= 5/2
= 5/2 m/s
