Given:-

  • Initial velocity of stone = 0m/s

  • Depth of well = 50m

  • Acceleration due to gravity = 10m/s²

To Find:-

  • Time taken by stone to reach the bottom of well.

Solution :-

By using 2nd equation motions of bodies moving freely under gravity.

➦ s = ut+ 1/2at²

➭ 50m = 0× t +1/2×10 ×t²

➭ 50 = 1/2× 10× t²

➭ 50 = 5× t²

➭ 50/5= t²

➭ t² = 10

➭ t = √10

➭ t = 3.16s

∴ The time taken by stone to reach the bottom of the well is 3.16s
