Explanation:

Since the ball is dropped, initial velocity=0

Given, distance=40m

V=330m/s

applying, S=ut+1/2at^2,we get

-40=0×t-1/2×10×t^2{As per sign convention}.

-40=-5t^2

thus,, t=2√2=2.82sec

Again time taken by the sound is

t'= 40/330=0.121sec

Therefore total time taken is

T=t+t'=2.82+0.121=2.941sec

~ The Total time taken by sound to reach is 2.951 Or 3.0 .

~ Use The 2nd Equation of Motion.

S = ut + ½ at^2
