As the stone falls its velocity increases at the rate of 9.8 m/s each second. Let’s use the following equation to determine the distance it falls in 5 seconds.

d = vi * t + ½ * a * t^2, vi = 0
d = ½ * 9.8 * 5^2 = 122.5 meters
To determine the height of each storey, divide this number by 25.
h = 122.5 ÷ 25 = 4.9 meters

Let’s use the same equation to determine the distance the stone falls in 1second.
d = ½ * 9.8 * 1^2 = 4.9 meters
In one second, the stone fell one storey.
