S=ut+1/2at^2
the stone is initially at rest,so
S=1/2at^2
44=1/2•10•t^2
t=2.96
So, the stone hit the well in 2.96 seconds.
Now
3.11-2.96=0.15 seconds
So, the sound was heared in 0.15 seconds and distance is 44 m .
So,
Distance =speed •time
Speed = Distance/time
Speed = 44/0.15
Speed =293.33
So the speed of sound in air is 293.33 m/s
