Given:-

  • Height,h = 980 m

  • Initial velocity,u = 0 m/s

  • Acceleration due to gravity,g = 9.8 m/s² [ Constant ]

To be calculated:-

Calculate the velocity of a stone.

Formula used:-

v² = u² + 2gh

Solution:-

From the third equation of motion for freely falling body, we have

v² = u² + 2gh

★ Substituting the values in the above formula,we get:

v² = ( 0 )² + 2 × 9.8 × 980

v² = 0 + 2 × 98/10 × 980

v² = 2 × 98 × 98

v² = 196 × 98

v² = 19,208

v = 138.59 ( approx )

Hence,the velocity of a stone is 138.59 m/s.
