HELLO,

Given,
u=0
t=3 seconds
g=9.8 m/s^2

We know,
v=u+gt
or v=0+(9.8×3)
or v=29.4 m/s

Therefore, the velocity obtained after 3 second is 29.4 m/s.

Happy to help you.

A stone is released from the top of a tower of height 980 m.

We have to calculate the velocity after 3 seconds.

A/C to question,

The stone is released from the top of tower, it means, it is free falling object and we know that initial velocity of free falling object is zero.

so, initial velocity of stone, u = 0

time taken, t = 3

acceleration due to gravity, a = g = 9.8 m/s²

using formula, v = u + at

⇒v = 0 + 9.8 × 3

⇒v = 29.4 m/s

Therefore the velocity after 3 seconds of the stone is 29.4 m/s downward.

[note : if you want to find the distance time taken by the stone to strike the ground, just use formula, t = √(2h/g) = √(2 × 980/9.8) = 10√2 sec ]
