A stone is thrown in a vertically
upward direction with a velocity
5 m s-1. If the acceleration of the
stone during its motion is 10m s-2
in the downward direction, what
will be the height attained by the
stone and how much time will it
take to reach there?

Answer:

u = 5m/s

a = -10m/s [ negative value because force is against the gravity ]

v = 0m/s

h = ?

t = ?

in 1st , we have to find height :

2gh = v^2 - u^2

2*(-10m/s^2)*h = (0m/s)^2 - (5m/s)^2

-20m/s^2*h = -25m^2/s^2

h = -25m^2/s^2 / -20m/s^2

h = 1.25m

height = 1.25m , we have to find time :

t = v - u / g

t = 0m/s - 5m/s / -10m/s^2

t = 0.5s

time = 0.5 s

hope it helps...........

in 2nd case
