A stone is thrown in a vertically
upward direction with a velocity
of 5 ms. If the acceleration of the
stone during its motion is 10 ms?
in the downward direction, what
will be the height attained by the
stone and how much time will it
take to reach there?

Answer:

1.25 m

0.5 sec

Explanation:

Given :-

Initial velocity - 5 m/s

Final velocity - 0 m/s

Acceleration = - 10 m/s²

To find :-

Height attained by the stone (Max height)

Time taken to reach there (Time taken to reach Max height)

Solution :-

Using kinematics :

⟹ v² - u² = 2as

We get :

⟹ 0² - 5² = 2 × - 10 × s

⟹ -25 = -20 s

⟹ s = -25/-20

⟹ s = 1.25

∴ The height attained by the stone is 1.25 m.

Again, using Kinematics :

⟹ v = u + at

We get :

⟹ 0 = 5 - 10t

⟹ -5 = -10t

⟹ t = -5/-10

⟹ t = 0.5

∴ The time taken to reach there is 0.5 sec.
