A stone of mass 250g falls from the height of 10m and penetrates 8cm in the sand . What is average thrust applied by the sand?

falls from the height of 10m

=> Velocity attained in 10 m distance

using V² - U² = 2aS

=> V² - 0 = 2(10)(10)

=> V = 10√2 m/s

Now Velocity become 0 after 8 cm = 8/100 m

=> 0² - 200 = 2a(8/100)

=> a = -1250 m/s²

while g = 10 m/s²

so acceleration exerted by sand = -1260 m/s²

mass = 250 gm = 0.25 kg

Force by sand =  0.25 * 1260  = 315 N
