The time taken to go up and come down would be same because when the stone was moving upwards with the initial velocity u, it was moving with the acceleration of
 - 9.8m {s}^{ - 2}
and and while coming down the acceleration changes to 9.8 metres per second square. Hence we can say that the total time taken was the same because the acceleration remains the same throughout the journey.
