A store is selling a jacket on sale at 30% off the marked price. A matching pair of pants is on sale at 40% off the marked price. If the marked price of the pants is Rs.8500 less than the marked price of the jacket and the total sale price of both items is Rs.23500, then what is the marked price of the jacket?

marked price (M.P) of the pants = 'y'

Discount on the jacket= 30%of M.P= 30x/100

S.P of the jacket = M.P of the jacket - Discount on the jacket

= x - 30x/100

= 70x/100

= 7x/10

= 0.7x

Discount on the Pants = 50%of M.P= 50y/100

S.P of the pants = M.P of the jacket - Discount of the pants

= y - 50y/100

= (100y -50y)/100

= 50y/100

= 5y/10

= 0.5y

M.P of pants is less than Rs.11600 less than M.P of jacket। ( given)

y = x - 11600 ……………… (1)

Total S.P of both items = ₹14600 (given)

S.P of jackets + S P of pants = 14600

0.5y + 0.7x = 14600

Put the value of y from eq (1)

0.5 (x - 11600) + 0.7x = 14600
