A storm sewer is carrying snow melt containing 1.200 g/L of sodium chloride into a small stream. The stream has

a naturally occurring sodium chloride concentration of 20 mg/L. If the storm sewer flow rate is 2,000 L/min and

the stream flow rate is 2.0 m

/s, what is the concentration of salt in the stream? Assume that the sewer flow and

the stream flow are completely mixed, that the salt is a conservative substance, and that the system is at steady

state

Answer:

Principal (p) = Rs 160000

Rate (r) = 20% = 20/4 = 5% (for quarter year)

Time = 1year = 1 × 4 = 4 quarters

By using the formula,

● A = P (1 + R/100)n

= 160000 (1 + 5/100)4

= 160000 (105/100)4

= Rs 194481

∴ Compound Interest = A – P

= Rs 194481 – Rs 160000

= Rs 34481
